What is the most humane/best method for pre-killing food animals?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

Co2 works well.

if humane is what your after, Co2 is prolly your best bet.

C02 is deffinitely the best way to go. If you put the animals in something and drop a block of dry ice in, that should do the trick rather quickly. You can often find dry ice for cheap at super markets. Just make sure you do this in a well ventilated area, so you don't end up p/k too. [;)]

...I have a semi-airtight container....I put some dry ice in and seal the container for several minutes to "charge" the container...Then I drop in the mice or rats...this worksimmediately as the chamber is already devoid of oxygen when they are placed inside...death is nearly immediate.

Hahaha this may seem cruel, but I knock them against walls and use hammers, and sometimes I use a pair of pliers and stap them behind the head.
But you can use CO2 ;)

I use compressed CO2 gas. I invested in a welding cylinder tank and it costs me about $10 to fill it. I am still on my first tank!!
Basically I put the rats in catfish bags, push out as much air as possible, put in the hose, turn the cylinder to open, and PUT THE GAS TO THEM![;)]

You may want to consider learning a more humane way to dispatch your feeders, IMHO. I believe it is important to have as much respect for the prey as the predator.
Just my $.02...

I do not have the heart to kill. I feed live. I will be buying frozen when we switch. Sprocket gets mad at me because I play with the food.

I usually take the rat or mouse by the tail and smack its head really hard over a counter top, windowsill, etc. Most of the time they're dead after the first wack. But two never hurts. ;)

I agree fully with Kara on that. Buying frozen works wonders. If you cant do that, Dry Ice is easy to find and very cheap. You can kill a LOT of feeders with a chunk of dry ice. Its my prefered method, though I have resorted to the wack on something hard method if I dont have any dry ice or CO2
