Hey Everyone,
Make collection seems to grow by the minute :D
Anyway, I'm thinking of purchasing a baby anaconda. Does anyone have experience with the yellow's and green's? I know all the technical info, but I just want to hear your experiences with them.
I've had one person tell me that yellows are known to musk, while others tell me they tame.
From an aesthetical view the yellows seem more pleasing to the eye...
Do you recommend one over the other?
This is a pic of a yellow I was considering....

make sure you get a cb babie so if its mean you can tame it down cause wc babies-juvis arent very nice in my exspierience (how ever you spell it)
Hey Vake,
The yellows I've delt with were fine, some nippy as younguns( like most babies are anyway, lol). But the greens are a different story. It's taken a while to find a true tame one. And alot seem to be picky eaters at first, captive hatched that is. But the CB's seem to do well. All except when they do bite, it HURTS! They feel like they have more strength or jaw pressure. I'm sure with as selective as you are you'll find one to your liking!
I'd probably go yellow. The one in the pic looks real nice. My friend has a cb Brazilian green anaconda. She is 18.5ft, beautiful, and TAME!!! SHe is VERY VERY VERY VERY, did I mention VERY HEAVY!!! After seeing how fat and large she was, I can't even imagine what hell it would be to have an aggressive one. If u get a green, make sure it is cb and u can tame it. Also make sure u can provide it a big cage. He keeps his female in a 125Gal tank and she can't really move[wawa] Look into a 8ftX4X2 cage!!!

persoanly i recon he will have to go bigger than that BMX greens like their space
IMO greens are not for anyone unless they have shite loads of experiance with true giants
go for a yellow they are usualy tamer and max out at around 10ft
but still as hevey as a big burm :)
give me a shout if u need any help m8
i have yellows and have worked with greens a bit too

That is a impossible that snake would break that tank. I once put a 15ft burm in a 150 gal and she nearly broke it and that was while I was cleaning her cage.
P.S. I would go with the yellows.
I have had more experience with Greens. The only yellows I have worked with were all spawn of satan. The greens can be pissy too, but the yellows seem to be the worse...
A few months ago in Reptiles Magazine, they were saying that the personality of the parents is usually passed on to the offspring...so thats something to think about.

I would go for the yellow anni. Because on average they will not grow as large as the greens, and they look a lot nicer. But that's not to say that the greens aren't great in their own way.

either way be prepared that any anna will eat proportionaly much more than the same size burm or retic
my yellow will happily take 5KG piglets every week if i let her and she is 11ft!

Actually it is a custom tank as in it is very wide, and only a foot or so high. I told him he was cramming it in, but he doesn't have the money for a bigger cagexx(
Not a shot at you BMX, but if he can't afford a bigger cage he doesn't need the snake! And if the cage is 126 g's like you say, it can't be that wide. He'll be lucky if he doesn't run into problems with her in such confinement.
I get what u guys are saying. I've only seen pics of her and was planning to come by and see her in person. He told me she was in a custom 125Gallon, but I only imagined how crammed she must have been. There was a pic of him compared to the conda and I seen how big she was. I have no idea how he fits her in, but there is a guy downtown who literally keeps a 13-14ft 125lb burm in a 75gallon high. He keeps her in the store window and if u ever come to Jersey City, u will see her. I think that isn't fair, but when I called up the animal controll they didn't carexx(

sometimes you have to bug animal control before they do anything. I reported a starving dog once, and I had to call them 2 or 3 times and harass them before the dog was picked up. Calling animal control may not always be best (at least you tried though) because if the owner doesn't really care about their animal, I think it's more likely to be put to sleep. Thats what happened with the dog, cause the owner wouldn't pay for any meds or anything the dog needed. It all depends. Perhaps you should try a reptile rescue?

I'd go for a green man, I have seen some nice green babies recently. Maybe its just because I have been tagged by a few yellows!

The reason that Animal Control "doesn't care" is becuase there is no nuassance (sp) animal that is causing a problem, or that needs removal.
Anacondas stink. Not a good pet at all imo. Theyre messy smelly poor eaters, unpredictable, ugly, and have no personality. I think that about sums it up in a nutshell.
But don't hold back Andy...tell us how you really feel!
K
I agree with Andy on how bad they stink! There is no worse smell that anaconda....yuck. I have a strong stomach and even their scent makes me wince....
I think they have a lot of personality, but I havent been around as many as Andy, so I would take his advice on that.
