Hi Everyone,
Kara has been asking a lot of interesting/fun questions...just thought I would give it a go....
What are some herp related (besides animals) investments/ideas which you are most proud of, or had the most fun doing?
For me, it would have to be my website. The website was a lot of fun to design and I'm continually updating it with any new herp related information I come across.
Next,, it would be better equipment. I purchased a few RANCO thermostats, which have been working out great.
Also, after researching and trying many different cages, I've decided to be more uniform. I want to fill my herp room with one style/brand of caging. I think it will look very cool once I'm done :)
Those are just a few things that I've done, which have been significant for me.

I am very proud of my racks, and I saved quite a bit of money building them myself.

I too like uniformity. My herp room looks 20x better and is alot easier to keep up now that I have my racks completed.
I also had a great time building these racks. I built the first one a little over 18 months ago and the second was finished about 6 months ago.

those are great looking racks m8
Well I am proud of how my herp is coming up. It is getting much more organized. I even have a hot water faucet just incase anything goes wrong. I also set up a few(well alot) of rubbermaids and other plastic enclousers, so it is all starting to look nice. I also want to reduce the number of fish tanks and like previously mentioned, try to stick to 1or2 brand name cages. My herps are also starting to help me out in science classes, lol!

Damn Al those are nice. Do you have any plans for building those? What size tubs do they hold? Can I hire you to build me one?
As far as herp investments go for me, I hope my best is yet to come. I want to do something to make my herp area look more uniform just like everybody else. I am good with woodwork but at the moment I don't have the necessary tools to do a really nice setup. If I could just get a table saw and router I could probably get it done...Or if Al will build me a rack like that and save me the time...;)

my best work is yet to come
but i have produced some (if not the only) truely patternless vieled chams
they had limited patches of normal pigment and the rest was just plain skin
no pigment cells or nothing
ended up like a pied ball efffect
unfortunalty i only have video fotage of them and they died within a few weeks of hatching

I'm pretty proud of the rack I just built. It's nowhere near as nice as realvenum's, but I only have 3 snakes. It's really a lot easier than I thought it would be. I just used melamine Redi-shelf, and had it cut to the length I needed by the hardware store. I'll get some more pictures when I move my snakes in.

That looks great too bb, I like how your trying to plug Mikes sites in the pic.
Wait a sec, thats where we are.......
1. Leaving the print media industry for a full-time herp career.
2. Time spent getting to know fellow keepers & breeders. I've made some awesome friends & also gained a wealth of knowledge on a variety of animals, as well as different approaches & perspectives on keeping them.
3. Things that facilitate organization & peace of mind - i.e. good record keeping & designing a feed card that exactly meets my needs, quality new caging & equipment, the flexibility to go home & mess with my animals at any time, etc.
4. Having an SO with a mind-blowing amount of herp experience, from whom I have learned a TON & do so on a daily basis. Additionally, being involved with someone who loves the same species I do (and vice-versa) even though we each focus primarily on different animals. Those "hey, look at this _______ (insert appropriate animal here)" moments really add to the motivation.
