This is a topic I posted in another forum a few months back...just thought it would be interesting to hear more perspectives from folks over here.

Some of my favorites...

The smell of eggs hatching.

Watching snakes act like snakes – like when I peek into cages after feeding & they’re all hanging out on their basking spots & staying warm…you know, doing what snakes do.

When a picky feeder finally turns on & takes off.

Walking downstairs only to see a smiling alligator sitting in the middle of the hallway.

Baby ball pythons that eat like retics…even if it means they mistook my hand for the rat.

When it’s late at night & all I want to do is finish things up at the shop & go home, and then I see a little chondro caudal luring and forget about wanting to go home, and just watch the snake twitch his tail for 10 minutes.

A big, friendly Borneo short-tailed python that is perfectly content to hang out on my lap.

Hearing Tokay geckos calling late at night.

Rhino iguanas that share a slice of watermelon with me.

The big, googley eyes of Trans-Pecos ratsnakes.

Having a significant other who likes the same things…or at least understands why I “just have to keep this one to see what it’s going to look like in a year!”

...and a year later saying to the same significant other "well, remember how cool that other one turned out? I think this one has a lot of potential too, so let's just keep this one to see..." and watching him roll his eyes, but walk away smiling.

Finding 30 timber rattlesnakes in one day.

Sometimes it’s too easy to get sucked in by all the drama that tends to happen in this hobby/industry…too easy to get so caught up in lusting after the next animal on your wish list that you forget how cool the animals in your collection already are, no matter what color, what species, how expensive or inexpensive. Go into your herp room RIGHT NOW, and think of just how awesome it is to be a part of something so amazing as herpetoculture.

Ok. Now what are some of YOUR favorites?

Cool post Kara!

lets see....

The crisp April air on the top of our first hill, the first morning we're in Waurika, OK to do our part.

Watching any of my pythons strike and get a PERFECT wrap on their food.

seeing a dozen little tiny noses sticking out of their eggs.

SEEING MY MALE PASTEL GETTIN' DOWN WITH A FEMALE FOR THE FIRST TIME YESTERDAY!

This may sound werid but my favorite thing is cleaning cages. Turning a unsanitary mess into a nice clean sterile enviroment for my snakes.

And watching my argentine boa on feeding days come to the front of his tub to watch until it is his turn.:p

Watch my male dragons show off for their ladies. Their color gets brighter and the beard gets pitch black and you know the bob of the head is following soon.

The females when they slow bob and wave their arms saying " I give, I just want to live in peace"

25 to 30 days later I love to sit infront of the cage after I have made the nest pile and watch the dragon dig her cave and lay eggs..

Opening up the incubator and seeing little heads popping out of the eggs.

The look of the male dragons face after sex. Its like "ah I need a cigarette. With their eyes half shut. (out of place)

The first time a baby dragon eats a cricket and looses its balance and falls on its nose with its tail straight up in the air.

The first time a baby dragon sheds. They rub their little face so cute against anything including their clutch mates and my finger.

Can i just say that this statement:

Sometimes it’s too easy to get sucked in by all the drama that tends to happen in this hobby/industry…too easy to get so caught up in lusting after the next animal on your wish list that you forget how cool the animals in your collection already are, no matter what color, what species, how expensive or inexpensive.

Is very true and i am sure we are all guilty of it, probably some of us more than others. I know i frequently get so caught up on what i want that i forget what i have.

This leads to without a doubt my single most favourite part of the hobby.
I LOVE to walk into the rooms and have something catch my eye only to realise "moments" later that i have been staring at that animal for the last 10 minutes with out even realising it. :cool

Watching them grow, and change as they get bigger.

Being proud and happy when they take their first rabbit.

Walking into the room and they all notice that you are there. Kinda spooky sometimes, but that is one of the things that I like.

Perfect sheds!

When they all finally take to f/t! YAY!!!!!:D

I like how when I had a bad day at the office that I can come home and hold them, or just sit back and watch them and it makes everything better.

I like how my wife and I have something to share together, other than paying bills.

I like when you get a new hatchling, and they think that they are allready 20 ft. and can eat you....LOL

I can go on and on..................

One of my favorite things is to watch a snake eat. No matter how many times I watch it, I just lay in front of the cages and stare like a 5 year old kid.

That is one of my favorite thing about keeping snakes.

my most favorite reptile sound is the hiss of a young argentine!!!.. they may only be 20 inches but they can hiss louder than any adult snake (except another argentine)

looking into the incubator and seeing new life and what suprises you might find

the feeling you get when you finally get a dificult animal to eatr
watching over time how chondros change... red ot yellow to oranges to green or blue (not neccisarily in that order)

the viberating sound of a male leo's tail..... it means he is fixxin to get his groove on

the smell of birth.......

gecko hatchlings screaming and trying to attack you and act all tough LOL walking high and mighty, waving their tails

My favorite thing to do is take my retics out in the sun and set up a baby pool for them and then I just sit out and watch them.
